2013 American Mountain Bike Challenge announced

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Jan. 3, 2013) — USA Cycling has announced the dates and venues for its 2013 American Mountain Bike Challenge (AMBC). Marking its 17th season, the AMBC will consist of 25 events and begin in March before concluding in early November. The series will visit 17 states throughout the country.

The AMBC was created in 1996 to provide opportunities for mountain bikers of all ages and abilities. Each stop on the series offers cross-country races, while some events may host short-track cross country, downhill, observed trials, or super D competitions as well.

In 2013, the Alison Dunlap Junior Race Series (ADJRS) will be combined with the AMBC, allowing for increased junior development opportunities across the country. With the discontinuation of the stand-alone ADJRS, the AMBC will look to increase its focus on development as it evolves as a race series.

AMBC events held prior to July 18 will also serve to qualify riders for the USA Cycling Mountain Bike Cross-Country National Championships, which take place July 18-21 at Bear Creek Resort in Pennsylvania. The number of rider qualification slots will be 10-deep per discipline, gender, and age-group for Categories 1 and 2. There are no qualification requirements for Category 3.

Visit the AMBC page to learn more about the nationwide calendar.
