Personal

Dean Tracy's cycling career began when he was a youngster in Portland, Ore. He's not entirely sure if he simply never tired of riding or if he hasn't grown up as a strong case could be made for either. By his own acknowledgement, Tracy played baseball, football and ran track, "all badly" growing up.

By the time Tracy was in high school, he had a job at The Bike Gallery, a family-owned bike shop in Portland. Tracy still maintains employment at The Bike Gallery.

As a full-time fireman, Tracy has realized many boyhood dreams. His results prove his strong drive and enjoyment of riding as he has accumulated three national titles and either holds or shares a pair of national records.

Between spending time with his wife, a great group of friends, working at the bike shop and as a firefighter, Tracy has precious little time to train, but he certainly has produced stellar results.

In 2011, Tracy recorded a pair of national records, won a national title and helped the team finish 12th at the UCI Track World Championships. In October of 2011, Tracy teamed up with Michael Blatchford and Jimmy Watkins to register a 44.036 in the Team Sprint as well as a 17.867 in the Time Trial, to pen his name in the national record books.

With great reward comes tremendous sacrifice and Tracy credits his wife and parents for all they have done to enable his cycling career. "They have always managed to be incredibly supportive without putting any pressure on me at all. I was never pushed to do anything I wasn't ready for. They let me make my own mistakes and helped me takes steps forward whenever I was ready for it. My wife has sacrificed more than I could have asked for to keep me going. Guess I owe her a lifetime of flowers and jewelry after all this is over."
