BMX Worlds Challenge Class qualification

There appears to be some confusion about how riders qualify for the Challenge Class – 2006 UCI BMX World Championships, to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Challenge Class riders that earned a Top 16 National number plate in the 2005 NBL National Series that align with the UCI challenge class structure are qualified to compete in Brazil.

However, anyone who qualified to compete at World Championships by this selection criteria MUST inform the NBL and return all entry forms to NBL by APRIL 3, 2006 if they want to keep the position for which they qualified. In addition, any rider who earned a World number 1 through 8 plate at the 2005 UCI World Championship/Challenge Class event in Paris has qualified for 2006 Worlds per UCI regulations. This does not negatively affect the number of athlete start positions in each Challenge Class category as anyone who made the Main in their category at 2005 UCI BMX Worlds is incremental to the 16 spots per country per category.

After April 3, 2006, any remaining start positions in each Challenge Class category will be determined by a selection process that will be announced by USA Cycling and NBL after January 1, 2006.

The entry form for the 2006 UCI BMX World Championship/Challenge Class is posted on the NBL website www.nbl.org and is also in the Jan/Feb issue of the NBL’s BMX Today magazine. Entry forms must be postmarked by April 3, 2006.

Elite and Junior athletes must earn at least one point in UCI World Ranking competition during the 2006 season in order to be eligible to compete at the 2006 UCI BMX World Championships.

All riders competing at the 2006 UCI BMX World Championships will be required to have a USA Cycling BMX International License.
