Masters Track Nationals get underway in Colorado Springs on Monday

Colorado Springs, Colo. (August 12, 2009) -- The 2009 edition of the USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships is set to get underway at the 7-Eleven Velodrome in Colorado Springs on Tuesday, August 18 and will continue through Sunday, August 23.

Online registration will be extended by one day and now ends at 11:59 EDT on August 12thClick here to register at Sports Base Online now.

In addition to the extended online registration period, onsite registration will be available at the velodrome from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night. Riders must register for each event by the evening before that event at the latest.

When masters track nationals were last held in Colorado Springs in 2006, the high altitude and fast racing surface set the stage for 13 world records to be broken. There is an excellent chance that new records will be set next week as well, in which case USA Cycling will provide mandatory drug testing.

Competition gets underway at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday with the one-kilometer and 500-meter time trials. If you’re unable to make it to the event, be sure to log on to www.usacycling.org at the end of each day for a full report of all the action.
