United Healthcare’s Australian star Rory Sutherland is currently in second place in the individual standings and within striking distance of overall victory.
The field of the Thompson Bucks County Classic contains a rich representation of the North American racing class, with sprinter Frank Pipp of the Bissel Pro Cycling Team, Team Optum’s Andrew Bajadali leading the challenge to United Healthcare. The weekend’s complete team and start list is attached below.
“Thanks to the Thompson Organization, it is with great pride that the Thompson Bucks County Classic will serve as the series finale for both the UCI America Tour and USA Cycling’s National Racing Calendar,” said Bucks County native and Race Director John Eustice. “The course’s steep twisting climbs and technical descents will serve as a grueling and tactical finale in a true European-style.”
Saturday’s inaugural New Hope to Doylestown road race is one of only three American races for men to hold both UCI and NRC sanctions. The 103-mile race starts in New Hope, Pa. along the Delaware River and races to Carversville for six grueling laps. The 14.6-mile circuit includes two covered bridges and spans Solebury, Buckingham, Plumstead and Bedminster Townships. After completing the circuit, the peloton will then race to the finish seven miles away in Doylestown. On Sunday, teams will compete in the ninth annual Thompson Criterium of Doylestown.
In addition to the Thompson Organization, other key sponsors making this weekend possible are Doylestown Hospital, Teva Respiratory and Eastburn and Gray.
