In keeping with our commitment to champion the participation and performance of the next generation of athletes, USA Cycling has finalized the timeline for the first year of the Olympic Development Academy. This timeline was restructured following our announcement that the ODA would be run as a “Super Semester”, meaning athletes would be engaged in the program for the entire 2021 season with no additional cost.
Here is the updated timeline for the application process:
Deadline | Date |
Application Deadline for Academy & Scholarship | March 15, 2021 |
Academy Applicants Finalized & Contacted | April 5, 2021 |
Olympic Development Academy Athletes Publicly Announced | April 15, 2021 |
2021 Super Semester Official Start Date | May 1, 2021 |
While we anticipate the return of racing and events to take place over the next few months, we will roll out the Olympic Development Academy curriculum in May. The curriculum will consist of an informational webinar series from the ODA coaches and other experts specializing in a wide range of topics. The discussion topics will range from learning how to use our online platforms, how to best engage with the Academy support system, and in-depth discussions of training plans regarding physiology, sport psychology, nutrition and other sports-performance materials.
Athlete safety is always a priority for us, and we will continuously monitor the COVID-19 situation. We will follow the advice from our medical staff to assess the safest return to travel and group activities on an event-by-event basis. With that said, all schedules are subject to change. Athletes can find the most updated schedules for their specific discipline here: BMX Racing, Cyclocross, Mountain Bike, Road, and Track.
We are very excited to get this program underway and provide more Junior and Under-23 athletes with the best possible support and guidance to bring their cycling careers to the next level. In addition to the benefits ODA Athletes will receive from Training Peaks and Hyperice, we are developing additional partnerships that we’re excited to announce soon. If your organization would like to become an ODA partner, please contact Oriol Brull at obrull@usacycling.org.
If you or someone you know are interested in supporting the athletes in the ODA, you can donate to the ODA Scholarship Fund, here.
