USA Cycling's Olympic Development Academy exists to elevate young riders to the elite ranks of international cycling across all disciplines. Providing world-class coaching, comprehensive training curriculums and immersive competition schedules, the Academy is meant for riders that have a desire to take control of their future in the sport.

    Coaching

    Under the guidance of the most decorated coaches in the country, Academy riders will have access to the knowledge needed to get to the next level. Each unique program includes discipline specific staff that has proven success in producing championship results.

    This includes:

    • Access to a high performance coaching staff with various Olympic and World Championships medals to their resume along with years of world-class experience
    • One-on-one coaching during competitions, camps and clinics
    • One-on-one strength and conditioning coaching during camps
    • Premium Training Peaks account with discipline specific training plans and strength and condition plans
    • On-going network and collaboration with professional teams and opportunities

    Curriculum

    Each rider is placed into a comprehensive training program that resembles the approach and accommodations of a professional cyclist. Becoming the best you can is a round-the-clock commitment and providing the resources to manage the physical and mental stresses of elite cycling is a huge part of producing the best result for the athlete.

    This includes:

    • Access to team infrastructure; world-class facilities, coaches, sport scientists, and experts in personal and professional development.
    • Performance monitoring with an initial rider assessment

    Competition

    Each program is built around putting newfound skills into action through a supported event schedule where riders will have the chance to compete against the best in the world.

    This includes:

    • Top-tier development competition schedule for national and international events
    • On-ground support at competitions including housing, food, race venue setup, and full-service by professional support staff
    • Develop race day protocols, strategies, nutrition, and proper mindset

Alec Pasqualina ODA Director

Background

Alec joined USA Cycling in early 2021 to kickstart the Olympic Development Academy, USA Cycling’s redesigned development program across all cycling disciplines. Alec is a former professional mountain bike and cyclocross racer who participated in previous iterations of USA Cycling’s development programming bringing firsthand knowledge and experience to the ODA. In addition to coaching athletes of all disciplines on the side, Alec spent nearly three years working for TrainingPeaks where he contributed to product enhancements, data analysis, coaching education, and customer retention. With coaching experience, product knowledge, and firsthand experiences, Alec plans to leverage his knowledge to grow the ODA into a pipeline for athletes of all abilities and backgrounds to make the USA Cycling National Team.

A native of Danville, Calif., Alec studied Communication Studies, Political Science, and Entrepreneurial Leadership at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. He now resides in Boulder, Colorado.

Olympic Development Academy Mountain Bike Coach
Background

Anders Johnson is an avid cyclist from the mountains of Northern Utah. He currently races many disciplines from MTB XC to Xterra off-road triathlons. Anders studied Physics and Mathematics at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California.

One of his main passions is the area of optimizing human performance, something that he is constantly researching and testing. He has been part of several top level development teams, such as Whole Athlete, where he learned what it takes to make it to the highest level in the sport. Anders was also a part of USA Cycling’s Talent ID Camps and World Championship teams as a junior racer.

Anders plans to bring all of his knowledge from his many years of racing, research, to help young athletes achieve their full potential.

Geoff Proctor Athlete Bio

Olympic Development Academy Cyclocross Coach
Background

Geoff Proctor has been involved in competitive cycling for over 30 years. He currently directs the EuroCrossAcademy (ECA), preparing young student-athletes to thrive as competitive cyclocross racers and community-oriented citizens through summer domestic camps and European competition blocks. Alongside his role with ECA, Geoff is excited to share his spirit for development through the ODA Cyclocross Program this coming season.

Geoff’s development roots run deep. From 2002-2018, he coached 16 world cyclocross championships for Team USA, culminating with the 2017-2018 season where he served as USA Cycling’s Cyclocross Performance Consultant. During the same period, he directed EuroCrossCamp in Belgium from 2003-2013; served as Technical Director of USGP (2004-2007); coached USA Cycling’s nieuwelingen (Junior 15-16) road camps in Belgium (2007-2009); served two four-year terms as a UCI Cyclocross Commission member (2009-2016); directed the UCI Cyclocross Camp in Aigle, Switzerland (2012- 2016); directed and coached the USA Cycling Cyclocross Development Program from 2014-2018; and is a USA Cycling Level 1 Coach.

Residing with his family in Helena, MT, Geoff currently teaches AP English Literature, College Comp/Lit, and Creative Writing at Helena High School and is about to complete is 35th year in the classroom.

Olympic Development Academy Mountain Bike Coach
Background

Over the last 20 years, Andi has worked in many facets of the cycling world: as mechanic, racer of many disciplines (enduro, cyclocross, XC, road, downhill), event organizer, brand ambassador, mountain bike guide, and more. She has spent the last five years as the co-owner of Roam Events, putting on world-renowned bike parties all over the country. She loves the bicycle; not just the machine itself, but the way in which it brings people together and teaches us about ourselves.

Andi started working with USA Cycling as a mechanic for the ODA Cyclocross program, and is honored to continue with the MTB program in a coaching capacity. She is excited to pass on her knowledge and experience to help athletes become the best humans and cyclists they can be, in that order.

Having cut her teeth on the loamy mountain bike trails of Western Washington, Andi now resides in Grand Junction, Colorado where she cuts her knees and elbows on the rocky terrain of the Western Slope. She studied Microbiology and Chemistry at the University of Texas at El Paso, where she played NCAA Division I Softball.
