Steps to cycling event success
Working with USA Cycling gives you expert support throughout the entire event planning process.
01Before the Event
- Give yourself plenty of planning time — ideally up to a year, depending on the size of your event
- Check our event calendar to ensure your event is not placed on the same day as a different cycling event in your region
- Get excited for a great event!
- Write a business plan
- Set realistic estimations for things like participation and revenue goals based on similar events in your region
- Get multiple estimates or bids from different vendors
- Revise numbers as needed
- Identify 3-5 opportunities for sponsor engagement/recognition and use these to seek out and acquire sponsors
- Utilize USA Cycling's expertise
- Review and optimize your race day schedule with our team
- Decide which registration platform to use (We recommend Bikereg.com)

- Consider relevant factors like accessibility, parking, traffic, other local events, weather/season, etc.

- Click on “Permit Your Event with USA Cycling” and answer the permit questions that apply specifically to your event and discipline
(Don't forget to take advantage of your free Race Director license through your Club Membership) - Once your permit is submitted and the payment and permit agreement are complete, an Event Services team member will review your permit and be in touch if anything additional is needed.
- *Complete the permitting process at least eight weeks before the event date
- Listing your event on USACycling.org ensures it appears on our event calendar for your area once your permit is approved.
