Because Bikes Give Back: Masks for Memberships

This month has been relentless. Illness, death, economic hardship worldwide – there is so little good news around us lately. Within our community, we’ve continued to see events cancelled and postponed and faced lockdowns, loss of income and childcare, and constant anxiety. We’re riding solo, trying to stay close to our loved ones through phones and computers alone, and struggling with endless uncertainty. We are all just trying to get by.

USA Cycling is still here for you. Our team is working from their homes, our potential Olympians are grappling with dreams deferred to another year, we’re trying to help our event partners survive and reschedule for a later time, and we’re looking for ways every day we can help keep our community together. Our mission as a non-profit is to serve and now we’re trying to get creative about how we can best help this community while trapped in our homes and facing one setback after another.

In case you missed it, check out our How You Can Help series for ideas on how you can help different groups impacted by COVID-19. We covered event organizers, youth organizations, local bike shops, and each other. There are small, positive things we can all do every day to help each other through.

While USA Cycling is focused on growing the sport of cycling at all levels and the health and wellness of every American who participates in this sport, we are also focusing efforts to ensure we all keep healthy and our members are in the best of health when events return.

Now we’re asking you to join us in making an even bigger impact. USA Cycling is working to support community health and increase the availability of PPE for medical professionals. From today until the date our current event suspension date is lifted (May 3), USA Cycling will use 50% of new membership payments to purchase face masks for use by front-line healthcare workers. We will partner with cycling industry companies like Orucase, Kitsbow, and Pinch Flat Designs so that each new membership will result in the purchase of masks for front-line health care workers.
