USA Cycling and Comcast NBCUniversal SportsTech are proud to announce a partnership that will further develop the sport of cycling in the United States by connecting it to a global ecosystem of sports, technology, and media companies. The tech accelerator, powered by Boomtown Accelerators, launched in January of this year.
Since USA Cycling’s beginnings in 1920, technology has been a central component driving the culture of cycling forward. Over the years, the sport has broadened into an amazing array of disciplines, organizations, and races, covering road, track, mountain bike, cyclocross, and BMX. With a mission to develop the sport of cycling in the United States and to achieve sustained international racing success, USA Cycling supports cyclists at all levels.
As Team USA develops the next generation of Olympians, SportsTech will enable access to emerging and innovative technologies, introductions to relevant startups, and early insights into sports tech trends. SportsTech connects startups who are creating new technology that can help USA Cycling athletes compete and win on the Olympic stage, while also giving these entrepreneurs unprecedented access to advisors on their path to building successful startups. As tech and tradition attack this breakaway together, we hope to move American Olympic cyclists further up the peloton and shave seconds off for Olympians.
By joining this growing list of partners that includes NBC Sports, Golf, Sky Sports, NASCAR, US Ski & Snowboard, and USA Swimming, USA Cycling adds to the attraction for inventors seeking to shape the future of sports.
“We are thrilled to be in the company of this impressive list of partners with Comcast SportsTech,” said Bouker Pool, Chief Commercial Officer for USA Cycling. “We look forward to partnering with Comcast and Boomtown to provide our athletes with the best tools and tech to perform at the highest level. We are always looking toward innovation to engage our current members, future fans and improve USA Cycling’s contribution to the sport.”
USA Cycling will work with the accelerator to define its innovation strategies and technology goals that will further the next generation of all disciplines in the cycling world. The SportsTech investment areas will focus on the technologies needed within the specific domains of athlete performance, fan and player engagement, and team and coach success.
“We are excited to welcome USA Cycling to the SportsTech family,” said Jenna Kurath, VP of Startup Partner Development for Comcast. “Our unique consortium of partners will give startups unprecedented access to strategic advisors while also opening doors to potential pilots and investments. These unique relationships, coupled with the accelerator’s custom curriculum and programming, will propel these startup founders to create pioneering innovations that the sports world has never seen.”
