Updated USA Cycling Coaching CEU Requirements

USA Cycling has updated its coach certification and license renewal program for 2024.

USA Cycling is committed to advancing the knowledge and skills of our coaching community. To keep our coaches at the forefront of sports science and athlete communication, we’re continuing our commitment to ongoing learning through 2024 with updated requirements for Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

By December 31, 2024, all USA Cycling coaches must complete six CEUs to maintain certification. This approach reflects our mission to provide world-class support to athletes by ensuring coaches stay current on the latest methodologies in sports science and communication.

Why CEUs Matter

Each year, USA Cycling coaches are required to expand and deepen their coaching knowledge through continuing education. Continuing education is measured in Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Each CEU is equivalent to about 1 hour of continuing education time. CEUs can be earned through online courses, in-person or online events, through mentorship, and other programs pre-approved by USA Cycling. CEUs earned in excess of the annual requirement do not roll over to the next year.

Requiring CEUs supports our coaches in maintaining a strong foundation in current sports science and coaching practices, which translates to exceptional experiences for athletes. These courses are thoughtfully developed to provide coaches with effective communication tools, modern training strategies, and the latest advancements in sports education.

How to Earn Your CEUs

Coaches can find USA Cycling-approved CEU courses at learn.usacycling.org. To fulfill the current requirements, four of the six CEUs must come from either the Coach-Athlete Communication Course or Training Plan Courses. These courses are specially designed to align with the content covered in our recent live events, making them highly relevant and practical.

Financial Aid Available

Recognizing that every coach’s circumstances are different, USA Cycling offers financial aid to make these courses more accessible. If you need assistance, please reach out to coaches@usacycling.org.

We are excited to continue supporting our coaches as they strive for excellence. To learn more, visit our Continuing Education page or review the 2024 Coaching Updates
