Rochester Cyclocross established its roots in Rochester’s Ellison Park in 2008. It was granted UCI calendar designation in 2010 and obtained Class 1 status in 2014. Having outgrown its initial home, the event moved to Genesee Valley Park in 2015. This gem of a public space is nestled at the intersection of the Genesee River and the Erie Canal, Genesee Valley Park was designed by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead. Olmstead’s other great works include New York City’s Central Park. Rochester Cyclocross’ international-caliber course highlights the park’s gorgeous natural terrain including waterways, rolling landscape and old-growth trees.

Course highlights in Rochester include a challenging mix of the varied, natural landscape and a variety of man- made features custom built by Race Director Scott Page. The “Fly Over” takes racers to planks positioned right in front of the Rohrbach Brewing Beer Garden. Another fan favorite section of the course is “The Jungle” – a large wooded area with off-cambers, half-pipe like sections and a steep runup. Riders then cruise over the “Fly By” to get to the notoriously gnarly “Double Trouble” – precariously positioned on the edge of the Erie Canal! Last but not least, the north side of the course has the Belgian Stairs and rolling grassy switchbacks – providing something for every talent!

Attendees at all events can enjoy food trucks, beer gardens, music, professional announcers, and children’s activities. Complete details for the weekend can be found at rochestercyclocross.com.
