Austin Dooley is a professional downhill mountain biker that is from Southern California. After racing motocross competitively as a young kid, he started riding cross country mountain bikes in 2014 when he joined his middle school team and he started competing later that year. After doing that for a bit, he gave enduro a try a handful of times and then ended up giving downhill a go at the 2015 USAC National Championships in Mammoth, California. From that one race, he was able to find his true passion and realized DH was what he wanted to pursue in the future.

He started out racing some smaller local events in California and Nevada and then as he got older and more experienced, he expanded out to racing the National series. After racing in the US for a few years, he would then move internationally. From 2019 being his first year eligible to race the World Cup circuit as a junior, each year he’s been competing in those events and has constantly been trying to get better each time. In that first year on the circuit, he qualified for two World Cups and he also got to compete in his first World Championship. From that year, he learned what the overseas competition was all about and was able to take what he learned into the following year. In 2020, after COVID pushed the season back to October, he competed in each of the World Cups where his best result would be an 11th in juniors. He also got to compete in the World Championships again that year in Leogang, Austria.
Looking to 2021 and Austin's first year as an elite racer, he took what he learned in the past again and was able to get some results he was happy with. He qualified at four of the six World Cups and achieved his best result in Snowshoe, West Virginia at the last round which was 22nd. Aside from that, he got 3rd place at the National Championships and also got to represent the USA in the World Championships for the third time. Now moving into another year of racing, Austin is excited for what’s to come and is happy to be a part of Team USA.
Something I like to do to get me in the zone before a race is to visualize my run and go through all of my line choices a few minutes before my start time.

I would say for me and racing motocross before I got into mountain biking, seeing what it took to get to the top level in that sport has helped me understand what I have to do if I want to reach that in downhill. It's not just the riding that you have to worry about but it's so many other little pieces that all have to come together as well.
