Meet the Athlete

Ruth was born and raised in Colorado where she was always adventuring outdoors with her friends and family. For the first ten years of her life, she lived in Boulder, where she attended a bilingual school and learned in both English and Spanish, learned how to ride a bike, joined the swim team, did karate, played soccer, ran cross country, and even attempted basketball. At the time, she was not a huge fan of cycling and spent most of her time in the pool with big swimming aspirations. At the end of fourth grade, her family moved to Durango. That summer, her mom signed the kids up for bike camp with the local Durango DEVO program and the rest is history. Throughout middle school, she had the privilege of riding with cycling legends such as Ned Overend, Howard Grotts, Todd Wells, Kaylee and Christopher Blevins, and so many others. In high school, all of her best friends rode bikes and they all trained together and were basically inseparable.

What is your favorite post-ride snack?

Ice cream all the way!

What is your favorite quote to live by?

In Durango DEVO, the local cycling program, there is a saying that goes "Never Forget The Feeling" meaning no matter how hard of a day you are having on the bike, never forget the feeling of why you love doing what you do. I feel like this quote applies to every day life and is super important to keep in mind and remember to enjoy the little things in life!

What would the theme song of your life be?

My theme song would be Shake It Off by Taylor Swift. I am a huge Taylor Swift fan, but I also think it's important to be yourself and be able to take whatever life throws at you.
