BICP Partnership

USA Cycling and the Bike Instructor Certification Program (BICP), a nonprofit public charity advancing the global standard in mountain bike instruction, have partnered to evolve coaching practices in cycling.

The BICP is headed by Shaums March, a three-time World Team member, two-time Masters World Champion and the first African American to win a NORBA National race and be chosen to attend the Mountain Bike World Championships. Shaums is also considered by many to be one of the best coaches mountain biking has ever seen and an all-around nice guy.

Together, USA Cycling and the BICP are committed to setting the standard in coach education and to creating pathways for kids to get on bikes and stay riding throughout life.

The benefits of this partnership will be realized through:

This partnership is particularly timely given USA Cycling’s new Let’s Ride Camps - a nationwide bicycle safety and basic bike skills education curriculum taught to elementary school-aged children through summer day camps, physical education classes, and afterschool programs throughout the USA. USA Cycling licensed coaches can now take advantage of the BICP’s “Ride Leader” certification course, which is perfect for volunteers and/or people working as Ride Leaders for biking clubs or afterschool programs. BICP coaches will also be able to host Let’s Ride Camps after taking advantage of the USAC Level 3 Licensed coach offer.
