Mentorship opportunities are a crucial way to gain insights and access to the sport industry. Through the Academic Mentorship Program, students have opportunities to connect with mentors from USA Cycling, the bike industry and broader sport industry. This opportunity is available to HBCU/TCU students in general, not strictly those participating in the cycling programs.
Schools selected to receive the cycling grant will be the first invited to participate in the HBCU/TCU Academic Mentorship Program however students from other HBCU/TCU are welcome to apply. Students will be invited to express interest in the program and to indicate which department/field they are particularly interested in accessing (e.g., mechanic, coaching, sport governance). Students will then be partnered with a relevant mentor and begin their mentorship experience.
Students ("mentees") will receive:
- Three 1-hour virtual meetings with their assigned mentor
- One 1-hour meeting with another mentor of their request
- Professional development support (career planning, interview process, resume writing, cover letters, etc.)
- Submit resume and cover letter to inclusion@usacycling.org. Please include your preferred area of interest in your cover letter.
If you are employed in the cycling or broader sport industry and have an interest in mentoring the next generation of employees, please contact inclusion@usacycling.org.
