In response to the announcement of the 2020 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships in September, USA Cycling has been hard at work finalizing plans for Team USA selection. In the true spirit of this digital discipline, we are excited to announce the 2020 USA Cycling Esports Trials on Sunday, October 11th.
This win-your-way-in virtual trials event is open to all eligible USA Cycling members, with the field competing for three spots on both the men’s and women’s teams at the World Championships.
This unique event will be hosted by RGT Cycling, and will be run on the Pienza course. The 5.1 mile loop is a mix of rolling hills and punchy climbs, with the finish to be decided on a climb. Both the men's and women's event will cover 6 laps, or 30.6 miles of racing. Each lap will have 771 ft of climbing, with a maximum grade of 6%.
Pienza, one of the more recent courses added to RGT, was inspired by the L’Eroica Montalcino vintage bicycle race. It is set in the stunning Tuscany region, with a variety of vineyards, but always dominated by the hilltop town of Pienza and its imposing stone walls. It’s a great little circuit and races over a few laps will find you doing more climbing than you may suspect.
This trials event has a limited capacity of 200 men and 200 women. All riders must meet the eligibility requirements laid out here. If you are not eligible at the time of the race start, you will be removed from the event, and you will not be allowed to participate.
- All riders must have an active USA Cycling membership
- Riders must be US Citizens and have a UCI code attached to their USA Cycling membership. If you don't already have a UCI code, please go here to learn how.
The selection criteria can be viewed at this link.

The UCI provided documentation and timelines to USA Cycling and other national governing bodies in early September. Since we received the documentation, USA Cycling has been working hard to ensure that running a trials style event for the 2020 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships would be possible, and notified the public as soon as all of the pieces were ready.
