The USA Cycling BMX Flatland team competed today in Montpellier, France at the 2021 UCI Urban World Championships. Terry Adams (Hammond, La.), Matt Wilhelm (Naperville, Ill.), and David (Bo) Wade (Redondo, Calif.) made the trek over to Europe to compete in the championship.
The contest started with 20 men from all over the world. Adams qualified second with a score of 82.67 right behind Matthias Dandois (France) who won with a score of 84.50. Wilhelm qualified ninth with a score of 74.67 and Wade finished with a score of 51.00. With only 12 men moving on to the semi-finals, Adam and Wilhelm made the cut and finished in sixth and eighth, respectively.
With 3-minutes to prove to the judges they are top-contenders, there was a lot of pressure going in to the finals. Both men had unbelievable performances, but unfortunately made a few mistakes in the Flatland Finals. Adams would get a lower score than in the semi-finals finishing in seventh with a 76.67 while Wilhelm’s incredible spinning style earned him fifth with a score of 79.00.
