Colby Lange earns 20th place in the Elite Men’s Scratch Race.

On the second day of the 2024 UCI Track World Championships at Ballerup Super Arena, Jennifer Valente (San Diego; Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY24) and Colby Lange (Edwards, Colo.; Chaney Windows and Doors) represented the United States in the Women’s Elimination Race and Men’s Scratch Race, respectively.

Elite Women’s Elimination Race

Kicking off the day for Team USA, Valente, fresh off a silver medal in the Women's Scratch Race, was ready to compete against the world's best for a shot at gold in the Elimination race. Valente knew exactly what it would take to do well in the field of 22 top competitors. Lap after lap, the group dwindled down. Valente maintained a position near the front, strategically positioning herself to avoid the risk of elimination. She held her position until the tail end of the race, where she was eliminated by Lotte Kopecky (BEL) and Ally Wollaston (NZL). The two riders went on to sprint for gold, with Wollaston edging out Kopecky for the win.

Results:

1. Ally Wollaston (NZL)

2. Lotte Kopecky (BEL)

3. Jennifer Valente (USA)

Elite Men’s Scratch Race

Competing on the men’s side, Colby Lange (Edwards, Colo.; Chaney Windows and Doors) lined up on the track for his 60-lap race. Pushing a high pace early on, the group lapped several riders. Kazushige Kuboki (JPN) dominated the race to claim the gold, while Tobias Aagaard Hansen (DEN) secured silver, and Clement Petit (FRA) took home bronze. American, Lange finished two laps down in 20th place.

Results:

1. Kazushige Kuboki (JPN)

2. Tobias Aagaard Hansen (DEN)

3. Clement Petit (FRA)

20. Colby Lange (USA)
