Read more of Tanner’s story below.
“I took over the USA Cycling Road Program at the end of 2022, following my role as the director of a domestic elite team. In 2022, I also guest-directed for USA Cycling at the World Championships and Tour de l'Avenir.
I came up through the USA Cycling Development Pathway and eventually raced professionally on the road for eight years. At age 15, I attended USA Cycling Regional Camps, which led to an invitation to the National Talent ID Camp at 17. During my senior year of high school, I went on my first National Team trip. I rode for the National Team for six years and competed in two World Championships. I was also a back-to-back U23 Road National Champion.
Throughout my time as a rider on the National Team, I've seen the various paths domestic athletes take to race in Europe and get to the World Tour, and I understand the critical role USA Cycling plays in this process. It’s been a long-standing goal of mine to return to USA Cycling and help grow this pathway.
As the Director of Road, my primary focuses have been Talent Identification, Athlete Development, and providing World-Class Support. I’ve allocated most of our resources to the Junior and Women’s teams and expanded opportunities for 15-16 –year olds.
I recently hired Gavin Mannion, a former National Team rider, who now serves as our Junior Men’s Team Director. Since he started, we established a partnership with the USA Junior Cup Race Series to create selection events for our National Team trips, aiming to enhance the competitiveness of junior-level racing in the U.S.
Finally, I’ve made team culture a priority, recognizing that our support staff is crucial to our success and athlete performance. We couldn't do any of this without your help! Thank you for your support on this journey to Paris 2024, and LA 2028.”
