Today marked the last day of the Time Trial events at the 2024 UCI Road and Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Zurich, Switzerland. At the World Championships, the UCI hosts Team Relays, which are an exciting way to bring the teams together within their countries. On the road, riders take part in a Team Time Trial Mixed Relay. For this event, three men are sent off to race a Team Time Trial, then they hand off to three women, who then race their portion of the Team Time Trial, covering a total distance of 54 kilometers.
For the United States, Brandon McNulty (Phoenix, Ariz.; Team UAE), Neilson Powless (Roseville, Calif.; EF Education-EasyPost), and Kevin Vermaerke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) were the three men to take off from the starting hut. When they finished their leg of the relay, Team USA was sitting in fifth place. Then, it was time for Emily Ehrlich (Greenville, S.C.; Team Twenty24), Amber Neben (Irvine, Calif.), and Lauren Stephens (Dallas; Cynisca Cycling) to set out on the second half of the race. Ultimately, Team USA finished in sixth, 2:17 behind the leaders. The World Title came down to a battle between Australia and Germany, who went back and forth for most of the race.
