What is BMX Racing?

BMX is a sprint race on a dirt track with jumps, rollers, and banked turns. Races are short, exciting, and held in a family-friendly environment with classes for every age and ability level.

Most BMX tracks offer rental bikes and helmets for beginners. Long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes are required. As you progress, you'll want to upgrade to a purpose-built BMX race bike and safety gear.

Gear Checklist

BMX Race Bike

BMX race bikes are small, sturdy, and built specifically for short, fast races. They have small wheels and a single gear, designed to give riders quick bursts of speed and precise control through jumps, tight turns, and obstacles.

Full-Face Helmet

A full-face helmet offers maximum protection by covering your entire head and face. It’s built to absorb impacts and shield your jaw, making it essential for BMX racing where crashes can happen.

Long Sleeves and Long Pants

Wearing long sleeves and long pants protects your skin from scrapes and cuts during falls or crashes. Made from durable, breathable materials, this gear keeps you comfortable while giving you extra coverage on the track.

Closed-Toe Shoes

Closed-toe shoes protect your feet from injuries and give you better grip on the pedals. For beginners, clipless pedals are not allowed, so you’ll want sturdy shoes with good traction to keep your feet secure while learning to ride and race.

Protective Accessories

Elbow and knee pads shield your joints from scrapes and impacts during falls. These accessories are essential for staying safe and confident on the BMX track, helping you ride harder while reducing the risk of injury.
