Finalists from Search for Speed Gear Up for Intensive Los Angeles Training Camp

By: Katherine Santos  August 28, 2023

Jelaani Davis, Christian Spencer, Elliott Davis, Reid Myers, Sterling Reneau, Jack Snare, Graham Weaver, Catherine Hamilton, Tess Edwards, Megan Mattson, Mallory Tse, and Hayley Yoslov have been invited to the 2023 Search for Speed training camp in California.

Next month, athletes who successfully progressed past the final round of testing in the 2023 Search for Speed program will embark on the next phase of the program. Twelve athletes, who have demonstrated exceptional speed and athletic capabilities, are set to return to California on September 2nd. This marks the commencement of the program's conclusive phase for the 2023 season, which involves an eight-day training camp at the VELO Sports Center.

Training Camp

Athletes will undergo both physical and mental training. The regimen is no walk in the park – it's a camp that aims to unearth the genuine Olympic potential these athletes possess. The journey of these individuals will be documented on the @searchforspd social accounts, providing a glimpse into their journey toward the National Team and, hopefully, the Olympics.

The upcoming training camp is the first of a trio scheduled for this fall, each will be used to determine which athletes are capable of racing for Team USA. Coaching these athletes will be Erin Hartwell, the USA Cycling National Team Sprint Coach, whose skills and knowledge are expected to help them reach the peak of their abilities.

“USA Cycling will roll out its first-ever talent integration camp in early September. This ground-breaking initiative is a targeted effort to identify and integrate proven speed-power athletes into the national team's development pool in the drive toward LA28. These athletes will complement and push the existing development program to an even higher standard of excellence in the collective effort to chase Olympic gold in five short years,” said Track Sprint National Team Coach, Erin Hartwell.

As a testament to the cutting-edge facilities provided, athletes will also have access to ride the track and utilize top-of-the-line LOOK bikes.

Camp Participants

A special congratulations go out to Jelaani Davis, Christian Spencer, Elliott Davis, Reid Myers, Sterling Reneau, Jack Snare, Graham Weaver, Catherine Hamilton, Tess Edwards, Megan Mattson, Mallory Tse, and Hayley Yoslov for being selected for this year’s camp.

The Search Continues

The commitment to finding top talent doesn't conclude here. In the fall, Search for Speed tryouts will resume. Individuals who participate will still be able to showcase their skills and complete a similar process to what our first round of finalists went through.
