Marian University and University of Colorado Boulder Win Team Omniums at the 2024 USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships

The 2024 USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships wrapped up on Saturday after three days of racing. Marian University and the University of Colorado Boulder captured the Team Omnium titles in their respective divisions. Marian University earned the win in the Varsity Team Omnium, while the University of Colorado Boulder took home the Club Team Omnium victory.

SPRINTS

Competition began on Thursday with the sprint qualification races. In the Women’s Sprint, Stephanie Lawrence (Colorado Springs, Colo.; Marian University) and Mia Deye (Geigertown, Pa.; Colorado Mesa University) moved through to the Final where it came down to a deciding ride with Lawrence winning the National Title. In the Men’s Sprint, Noah Mandow (Santa Monica, Calif.; Santa Monica College) and Mateo Marasas (Buenos Aires, Argentina; Lindsey Wilson College) moved through to the Final with Mandow claiming the Stars and Stripes.

TEAM PURSUIT

The Thursday morning session saw the first National Titles awarded, with Team Pursuit taking the spotlight. Colorado Mesa University's women's squad of Olivia Cummins (Fort Collins, Colo.), Kate Seiler (Louisville, Ky.), Mia Deye (Geigertown, Pa.), and Ella Sabo (Redlands, Calif.) set a new facility record and won in a time of 4:46.131. Milligan University's Dillon Geary (Saint Charles, Mo.), Riley Wrightsman (Wauwatosa, Wis.), Brody McDonald (Escondido, Calif.), and Adin Papell (Murrieta, Calif.) won the men's event in 4:20.269.

INDIVIDUAL PURSUIT

The Men's Individual Pursuit had 37 riders on the start list. Geary stopped the clock at 4:32.925, earning gold. Teammate, Wrightsman (Wauwatosa, Wis.; Milligan University), placed second 1.732-seconds behind Geary.  Cummins dominated the Women’s Individual Pursuit and claimed gold with a time of 3:38.978.

SCRATCH RACE

In the Women’s Scratch Race, 28 riders lined up to battle it out for 24 laps and their chance to claim a National Title. Lawrence took the win and her second Stars and Stripes jersey of the weekend. Twenty-six riders took the track for the Men’s Scratch Race where Papell claimed the National Title.

TIME TRIAL

Taking home her first Stars and Stripes jersey of the weekend, Rita Fedewa (Fort Collins, Colo.; Belmont Abbey College) proved fastest in the Women's 500M Time Trial with a time of 36.419. Marasas claimed the National Title in the Men’s Kilo Time Trial with a time of 1:06.098.

POINTS RACE

The Men's Points Race was a thrilling, action-packed event, with five of the 24 starters taking a lap on the field. In the end, Geary secured the win. He just edged out Luke Arens (Coralville, Iowa; Marian University) in the final points tally, winning by one point. Javiera Munoz (Milligan College, Tenn.; Milligan University) took a commanding lead in the Women’s Points Race, claiming the National Title with 36 points. The battle for second was close between Cummins and Reagen Pattishall (Breinigsville, Pa.; Piedmont University), with Cummins securing silver by one point.

Marian's squad threw down a time of 2:12.133 to claim the Co-Ed Team Sprint for the second year in a row.

OMNIUMS

The ultimate award at the Collegiate Track National Championships is the Omnium Award. The omnium is the best all-around performance for individuals and teams, Varsity and Club. Marian University's Lawrence claimed the Women's Omnium National Title with dominating wins in the Sprint and Scratch Race. Geary of Milligan, who claimed gold in the Individual Pursuit and Points Race, won the Men's Omnium. Marian University took top honors in the Varsity Team Omnium and University of Colorado Boulder claimed the Club Team Omnium title.
