21 Titles Won First Day in Downhill and Dual Slalom

SNOWSHOE, W.Va. – The 2018 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships returned this week to the Alleghany Mountains of West Virginia and Snowshoe Mountain Resort. Following two days of practice runs on Cheat Mountain for downhill and cross-country disciplines, competition commenced on Tuesday for amateurs in non-championship qualifying and finals for dual slalom and non-championship finals for downhill.

At an elevation of 4,848 feet above sea level, Snowshoe Mountain covers 11,000 acres. The resort is a unique mountain experience for its “upside-down” setup, with all of the lodging, restaurants, and shops located on the top of the mountain. Once the fog cleared on Tuesday, the focus for the day was on the downhill course on the Western Territory section of the mountain.

Twelve total winners in the non-championship Downhill competitions were crowned, including Women Cat 2/3 in 15-18 and 19-24 age groups; Men 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14; and Men Cat 2/3 in 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 45-49 and 50-54 age groups. Downhill results are vailable online.

For the non-championship Dual Slalom finals, nine total winners were crowned, including Women in 6-10, 11-14 and 15-18 age groups; Men 6-10, 11-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39 and 40+ age groups. Results will be posted at usacycling.org, and PDF information available here.
