Team USA Recap: From Juniors to Elite, Americans Take On Busy Euro CX Season

(December 20) – American juniors earned a flurry of top-20 spots over ‘Kerstperiode,’ the busy holiday season of European CX stretching from late December to early January.

In Antwerp, Matthew Crabbe (EuroCross Academy) placed 12^th in the junior men’s race, while Anna Olesen (EuroCross Academy), Stella Lehman (EuroCross Academy) and Hadley Molnar (EuroCross Academy) placed 7^th, 10^th and 11^th respectively in the junior women’s race.

(December 22 and 29) – Two weekends of Belgian racing saw EuroCross Academy rider Jacob Hines battled through a huge field to take 6^th place in the X20 Trofee Series race in Hofstade. 

A week later in Loenhout, U23 men’s national champion Henry Coote (Trinity Racing) placed 16^th in U23 men’s racing, while Anna Olesen (EuroCross Academy) placed 20^th in junior women’s racing

(December 26) – Nineteen-year-old Vida Lopez de San Roman (Trinity Racing) placed 13^thin a packed elite women’s race (and 4^th in U23) at UCI World Cup Gavere. Fellow teen Lidia Cusack (CXD Trek Bikes) placed 19^th in a field of 66 women.

(December 28) – Henry Coote (Trinity Racing) was the top-placing American in Dendermonde, taking 13^th in a tight U23 men’s race with a field of 60 riders. 

Alyssa Sarkisov (CXD Trek Bikes) and elite women’s national champion Lizzy Gunsalus(CCB Racing p/b Levine Law Group) battled their way through a starting group of 88 riders to finish one second apart, placing 19^th and 20^th respectively in elite women’s racing. Junior 17-18 national champion Kira Mullins (Bear National Team) and Ada Watson (CXD Trek Bikes) placed 16^th and 19^th in the junior women’s race.

(January 1) – Vida Lopez de San Roman (Trinity Racing) kicked off the new year with a 10^thplace spot in the elite women’s race in Baal. Katherine Sarkisov (CXD Trek Bikes) was 13^th. Henry Coote (Trinity Racing) placed 17^th in the U23 men’s race.

(January 4) – Tessa Beebe (EuroCross Academy) was the top-placing American at Zonhoven, placing 6^th in the junior women’s race. Kira Mullins (Bear National Team) was 9^th.

Lidia Cusack (CXD Trek Bikes) and Vida Lopez de San Roman (Trinity Racing) earned top-20 spots, with Cusack placing 18^th and San Roman 20^th in the elite women’s race. 

In junior men’s racing, three Americans battled to top-20 spots in a field of 88 starters. Noah Scholnick (EuroCross Academy) placed 13^th, while fellow EuroCross Academy riders Matthew Crabbe and Jacob Hines came in together to place 16^th and 17^th. The race concluded the official ‘Kerstperiode’ of CX racing, which began December 20 in Antwerp.

(January 18) – It was on to Spain and another top-20 spot for U23 national champion Henry Coote (Trinity Racing). Coote placed 13^th in fast and furious U23 men’s racing, matching his 13^th place at Dendermonde.
