USA Cycling and TeachAids, an award-winning nonprofit social enterprise behind the CrashCourse concussion education technology, proudly announce a new partnership.
USA Cycling is excited to have TeachAids as an educational resource for the sport of cycling. From enthusiasts to elite athletes and staff, USA Cycling encourages its members to stay up-to-date on the latest research as the conversations continue around concussions.
TeachAids creates breakthrough technology to solve persistent problems in health education around the world. Their products are designed with input from a team of world-class academics, researchers, doctors, and athletes associated with leading organizations. TeachAids has developed "CrashCourse," a suite of interactive products focussed on the prevention and treatment of concussions and related mental health issues. This education has been designed to teach athletes, parents and coaches about concussions throughout the cycling world, from recreational cycling to school and club programs and to competitive cycling at all levels.
“Concussions are far too common in recreational and competitive cycling. It is critical cyclists understand the signs and symptoms of a concussion, and how to respond if an injury has been sustained. In our continuing efforts to champion positive health and safety, USA Cycling will be including the outstanding CrashCourse content on our website to help educate our larger community,” states Rob DeMartini, President & Chief Executive Officer of USA Cycling.
In the past couple years, USA Cycling collaborated with TeachAids to launch two innovative concussion education programs. First was the Brain Fly-Through, which uses state-of-the-art technology from Stanford University’s Neurosurgical Simulation and Virtual Reality Center to conceptualize an otherwise “invisible” injury. Prefaced by dramatic race footage, 2018 Mountain Bike World Champion Kate Courtney, takes the viewer on a journey through the human brain to showcase its complexity and fragility. The education production is available in standard video and VR.
The second was the Concussion Story Wall, an interactive database featuring more than 4,000 video stories describing personal concussion experiences. Christopher Blevins, the first-ever Men’s Elite Short Track World Champion and Alison Tetrick, USA Cycling Board Member, were featured as celebrity spokespeople in this product, which has been integrated by the CDC as part of their resources for head injuries.
“I am very proud of my sport for taking a lead in providing compelling concussion education for all levels of cycling. Concussions are a challenge we deal with regularly,” says Christopher Blevins, World Champion and TeachAids Ambassador.
With the success of the previous collaborations and launch of groundbreaking concussion education products, USA Cycling will work with TeachAids to produce a new multi-sport curriculum. They will be joining 21 other U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s National Sports Governing Bodies in this monumental education effort.
