USA Cycling Announces 2020 USA Cycling Esports Trials

By: Stuart Lamp  October 02, 2020

The top-3 riders of each race will earn their way into the 2020 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships.

In response to the announcement of the 2020 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships in September, USA Cycling has been hard at work finalizing plans for Team USA selection. In the true spirit of this digital discipline, we are excited to announce the 2020 USA Cycling Esports Trials on Sunday, October 11th.

This win-your-way-in virtual trials event is open to all eligible USA Cycling members, with the field competing for three spots on both the men’s and women’s teams at the World Championships.

This unique event will be hosted by RGT Cycling, and will be run on the Pienza course. The 5.1 mile loop is a mix of rolling hills and punchy climbs, with the finish to be decided on a climb. Both the men's and women's event will cover 6 laps, or 30.6 miles of racing. The top-three from each race will be selected to represent USA Cycling in the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships in December.

The Cycling Esports Trials has a limited capacity of 200 men and 200 women. Per UCI regulations for the World Championships, all riders that register to participate must have a USA racing nationality with UCI ID, a racing age of 19 or older, and hold an active USA Cycling membership or valid license from a UCI affiliated Federation. Full details on these requirements may be found here.

The $50 rider registration fee will cover costs for livestream coverage and announcing plus future plans for e-racing in 2021.

In addition to the trials event, participants will be required to participate in one of the free training events provided over the next few weeks. These training rides will allow participants to familiarize themselves with the RGT platform as well as verify equipment. Additional details around dates and times for test events will be provided to all registered riders.

A full list of rules and regulations may be found under the event notes on the event page.
