USA Cycling Foundation Expands Wyatt Weisel Grant Program for 2025

By: Kelsey Erickson  February 26, 2025

More than $400K in grants are available to support athlete development and grassroots programs.

For years, USA Cycling and the USA Cycling Foundation have provided grants and programs that invest millions into the cycling community. In 2025, these efforts will expand to include over $400,000 in available funding for athletes, event organizers, and clubs. These grants are designed to support athlete development and participation at every level, across all competitive disciplines nationwide.

As part of this effort, the Wyatt Weisel Grant Program will now offer expanded high-performance funding, including a new Mental Health Grant. USA Cycling has provided mental health services to its National Team athletes for years, connecting riders with professional counselors across the country. Thanks to the generosity of a dedicated donor, this support is now extending beyond the National Team level, ensuring that finances are not a barrier to American cyclists accessing mental health services.

Longtime USA Cycling donor Julia Violich, a coach and director with Twenty28 and Bear National Team, is the main supporter of this new initiative. “Over the past 5 years, I have been impressed and grateful for USA Cycling’s dedication to athlete overall wellness, both physically and mentally,” said Violich. “This new grant program will extend USA Cycling’s support to those not yet at the National Team level. This will be a game changer for many of our athletes in every one of our disciplines. We are grateful to partner with USA Cycling to provide yet another level of support to our athletes.”

In addition to mental health support, the Wyatt Weisel Grant Program will continue to fund High Performance Grants, now covering not only travel and race expenses, but also training costs. Additionally, the newly introduced Team Pursuit Grant provides critical financial support to athletes dedicated to this event to offset daily training and living expenses associated with being part of the USA Cycling National Team Program.

Applications are now open for the following grants:

  • Wyatt Weisel Mental Health Grant: USA Cycling is committed to protecting the mental well-being of its athletes. New in 2025, this grant removes financial barriers to accessing professional mental health services. Athletes who have represented the United States (i.e., been required to wear the USA Cycling National Team jersey) in the past two years are eligible and can receive up to $1,500 per year in mental health support.
  • Wyatt Weisel High Performance Grant: Designed to assist athletes attending USA Cycling National Team programs, this grant provides financial support for travel and training expenses. Many of America’s top cyclists have benefited from this program in the early stages of their careers. Athletes who have been selected for USA Cycling National Team Program events and trips are invited to apply.
  • Wyatt Weisel Team Pursuit Grant: This grant helps offset daily living and training expenses for men’s and women’s Team Pursuit athletes actively training with USA Cycling. Awarded quarterly, eligible athletes can receive up to $2,500 per quarter (maximum $10,000/year).

Later this year, USA Cycling will introduce even more funding opportunities to support athletes, teams, and event organizers. These include the Centers of Excellence Grants, the Event Organizer Advancement Fund, Cyclocross Grassroots Development Grants, HBCU/TCU Grants, and additional grants for clubs and teams.
