Trek USCX Series: Virginia's Blue Ridge Go Cross in Roanoke, VA., September 14-15th

Everything you need to know about Virginia's Blue Ridge Go Cross this weekend.

Virginia's Blue Ridge Go Cross presented by Fat Tire is more than just a race – it's a full-blown adventure in Roanoke, VA, the heart of East Coast cycling.

This C1/C2 event kicks off the Trek USCX series and is the second stop of the USA Cycling Cyclocross National Series, drawing pro and amateur cyclists from all over the US and Europe. The exciting 3 km course at Fallon Park features barriers, a flyover, stair climbs, and a sand pit – testing skills and endurance. But the experience goes well beyond the course.

Meanwhile, spectators will soak up the action with incredible 360-degree views and lively commentary from the in-field beer garden. They'll enjoy refreshing Fat Tire Ales or non-alcoholic beers from Athletic Brewing as well as food trucks, exhibitors, and plenty of opportunities for heckling. Don't miss the Fat Tire bike giveaway; the Friday welcome event performance by legendary 90's cover band, GAK!; or the fan-favorite Go Cross Beer Mile team relay on Sunday with the costume theme: 90's Blockbusters!

For those not racing, Roanoke offers endless adventures. Hike the Appalachian Trail, explore breweries on an e-bike tour, or cool off with a river tube trip all within a short 30-minute drive or less from the race. Downtown's vibrant arts scene boasts galleries, museums, and local shops.

Experience the thrill of cyclocross, explore Roanoke's charm, and create unforgettable memories. Go Cross promises excitement and discovery for racers, cheerleaders, and explorers alike.

Who to Watch: Elite Men

Andrew Strohmeyer  - CDX TREK Bikes (USA)

Curtis White  - Steve Tilford Foundation Racing (USA)

Kerry Werner Jr  -  Groove Auto Off Road Racing (USA)

Scott Funston  -  Cervelo Orange Living (USA)

The winners of the United States cyclocross contingent will be out in full force this coming weekend, kicking off the 2024 TREK USCX series in Roanoke, VA. The Top Five all hail from the USA this time and it is a very exciting line up for the C1 race on Saturday, September 14th. A good pedal in the sand, up the barriers and a good crack on the legs to see who is coming out with solid form to dominate in the early season UCI points up for grabs.

Curtis White, a loyal racer of the series, coming back with his Steve Tilford Foundation Racing team joins for a fourth year of racing with the series. White, spending the early part of this year racing overseas, is always putting in exciting race tactics and lap split times that set the race standard. A leader of the US Cyclocross scene, White is always coming for the top steps of the podium. He will be rivaled by Strohmeyer who has a punch to put time in on any rider. Strohmeyer is incredibly fun to watch in any race. You can always expect him to jump and put in time when the racing gets hard; He just makes it harder!

Kerry Werner coming back full time to cyclocross with his Colorado based team, Groove Auto Off Road Racing is the cookie needed in cyclocross right now. Cyclocross has seen many of its top athletes testing the sponsorship and course waters of gravel races in recent years, but nothing can replace it. Cyclocross is home for so many friendly and charismatic top world athletic talent.  Teams choose the TREK USCX series every year to build their UCI points and show up for home turf bragging rights.  Funston and his incredibly supportive Cervelo Orange Living, USA based team will be one who may come out very fit. He raced his most races ever in his life in 2023, totalling 23 internationally and at home in the USA. He should come to Roanoke with good legs, ready to add his name to the top steps of the series.  Alexandre Binggeli, at 19 yrs old, racing for Elite Foundation Cycling Team out of Switzerland will be our youngest pick to watch out for in Roanoke.
