Braden Walton made his Paralympic debut at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, finishing 6th in the Tandem B - 4km Pursuit and 8th in the Tandem B - 1000m Time Trial alongside pilot Spencer Seggebruch.
Originally a standout in Para track and field, Walton won junior world titles in the 800m (gold) and 1500m (silver) in 2017. After a back injury in 2021 ended his running career, the California native turned to cycling, initially “just for fun.” But his competitive drive took over, and by 2023, he was racing at the U.S. Para Track Nationals and competing in a world cup road event in Belgium.
Walton’s rapid progress earned him a surprise call-up to the 2024 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. There, he and Seggebruch finished 6th in the individual pursuit and 19th in the 1-kilometer time trial.
Now based at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Walton trains under two-time Paralympian-turned-coach Chris Murphy. He’s gaining experience in both road and track events, with plans to continue in both disciplines.
Diagnosed with macular degeneration at age 4, Walton has found a new purpose and community in cycling.
