Dmitriy Zimin, owner and head coach of Total Balance Fitness in Roswell, GA, is a Level 3 USAC coach and a Level 2 USAT Coach. An opportunity to refresh current and to explore new approaches and techniques inspired Zimin to complete USA Cycling’s Physiology of Training specialization courses

Zimin had an unexpected beginning in his coaching career which started when he started helping a friend train to accomplish an event that his friend had been dreaming of completing. Zimin found love in coaching. The reward of athletes’ success, working to stretch their limits and achieve their new potentials, is Zimin’s favorite part of coaching.

Specifically, from USA Cycling’s Physiology of Training specialization course, Zimin applies the concept of “re-defining and re-embracing the thin line between overreaching, overtraining, and burnout” into the training of his athletes. He advises other coaches to begin the course with an open mind and a growth mindset, as typical aspects of your coaching routine will be presented from a different perspective.

Zimin mirrors his dedication to his favorite cycling events being “long, ultra long or brutal”. He chose the Ultraman (320 miles) World Championship in Hawaii as his favorite event. Post race, Zimin celebrates each success with a different post ride recovery ritual.

The motivator behind Zimin’s continuous education and growth as a coach is the amazement of how little we (humans) know about our own bodies, minds, and abilities. “Being a coach gives a unique opportunity to learn and discover what is hidden behind the horizon for many athletes”.
