Frislie, Hicks, and Marquardt Win Individual Elite Titles on Day Two of Elite Track Nationals

Hartman, Reneau, and Walters claim gold in the Men’s Team Sprint. Che, Cummins, McKee, and Pattishall earn U23 national titles.

 

The 2025 USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships continued Friday at the Colorado Springs Velodrome with Women’s Individual Pursuit, Men’s Team Sprint, Women’s Scratch Race, Men’s Omnium, and Women’s Sprint events.

 

Men’s Omnium 

Friday’s session kicked off with two qualifiers for the men, where 40 athletes total took the track for 45-lap points races and their chance to compete for the national title. Twenty-four riders made the cut and would move on to compete in the Omnium. After the Scratch Race and Tempo Race, Grant Koontz (Nederland, Colo.; Star Track UCI) and Anders Johnson (Huntsville, Utah; Ventum/Voler) led the pack with 76 total points each. The Elimination Race re-positioned the leaderboard, where Graeme Frislie (Paradise, Au.; CCACHE x Bodywrap) moved into the top spot with 114 points. In a determined show of force during the Points Race, Frislie raced his way to the top podium spot, winning the national title with a total of 191 points. Koontz secured silver with a total of 183 points, and Johnson rounded out the podium with a total of 141 points. Alejandro Che (Torrance, Calif.; Turbo Velo Pickle Juice) earned the national title for the U23 category.

Women’s Individual Pursuit

The women came to compete on day two, with the top four qualifiers all clocking sub-5-minute times in the 4-kilometer qualifying race. Anna Hicks (Boulder, Colo.; UCI CTW: Virginia's Blue Ridge TWENTY28) established a new national record with her top-qualifying time of 4:39.350. In the final, Hicks and Stephanie Lawrence (Colorado Springs, Colo.; Star Track) raced for gold, while Reagen Pattishall (Breinigsville, Pa.; Turbo Velo Pickle Juice) and Laurel Rathbun (Encinitas, Calif.; L39ION of Los Angeles) battled for bronze. Hicks raced to victory with a time of 4:43.044 and claimed the national title. Lawrence earned silver, and Pattishall rounded out the podium with bronze. Pattishall’s performance also earned her the Stars and Stripes jersey for the U23 category.

Men’s Team Sprint

Six teams vied for a spot in the Men’s Team Sprint final. In a thrilling battle for the Stars and Stripes, Walters/Reneau/Hartman outperformed the competition, securing the win with a time of 59.971. Paul/Jameson/Davis put up a strong fight and secured silver with a time of 1:01.152. Alvord/Roberts/Koller rounded out the podium with bronze.

Women’s Scratch Race

Twenty-four riders lined up to race for 10 kilometers and their chance to claim the national title. Anna Hicks (Boulder, Colo.; UCI CTW: Virginia's Blue Ridge TWENTY28) captured the lead and rode that momentum across the line first, winning her second Stars and Stripes jersey of the day. Olivia Cummins (Fort Collins, Colo.; UCI CTW: Virginia's Blue Ridge TWENTY28) earned silver, and Stephanie Lawrence (Colorado Springs, Colo.; Star Track) secured bronze. Cummins’ performance also earned her the Stars and Stripes for the U23 category.

Women’s Sprint

In the semi-final, Emily Hayes (York, S.C.) and McKenna McKee (Vancouver, Wash.; Tesseract) battled it out in heat 1, while Kayla Hankins (Scottsdale, Ariz.; American Sprint Cycling Program) and Mandy Marquardt (Allentown, Pa.; Edge Cycling) went head-to-head in heat 2. Marquardt and McKee moved through to the final, where Marquardt won both rides and the national title. McKee earned silver, and Hankins rounded out the podium with bronze. McKee’s performance also earned her the national title for the U23 category.
