Kate Brim Wins Sixth WH2 World Title at the 2026 UCI Paracycling Road World Championships

On the third day of the 2026 UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships, the handcycles and tricycles competed in their respective road races. 

Kate Brim (Lowell, Mich.), Emelia Perry (Philadelphia, Penn.), Dennis Connors (Beaverton, Ore.), and Cody Wills (Harrisburg, Penn.) all secured medals today after an intense day of racing, bringing the total medal count for the event to 14. So far, this is already one of the most successful World Championships in years for Team USA and there is still another day of competition. The team is chasing the record set in 2019 of 21 medals.

WH1-2

Kate Brim (Lowell, Mich.) was in a class of her own. From the start, she was off and never looked back. After 27.6km, she won by 16 minutes, scoring her second World Title of the weekend, taking the Time Trial title earlier in the week. This ride marks her sixth World Title of her career.

WH3-5

Emelia Perry (Philadelphia, Penn.) established herself in the front early on within the mixed categories. She controlled the pace at the front over 55km of racing. It came down to the last lap, where she rode to the line in second scoring the silver medal after winning the Time Trial World Title earlier in the week. 

Jenna Rollman (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) rode solo most of the day holding strong to take sixth in the H3 category.

MH1-2

The men’s H1 and H2 categories set out for 4 laps totaling 55.2km. Cody Wills (Harrisburg, Penn.), Jeremy Van Tress (Herriman, Utah), and Nicholas McCoy (Boerne, Texas) were racing the H2 category along with Barry Wilcox (Port Angeles, Wash.) in the H1 race. 

Wills took off in the lead group from the start. An early group of four formed with Wills, Florian Jouanny (FRA), Luca Mazzone (ITA), and Rory Mead (NZL). Midway through their third lap, they dropped Mead, leaving it to the three to fight for the medals. All three riders stayed together until the final kilometers. Jouanny would take the win by inches over Mazzone and Wills would get the bronze, the same finish as the Time Trial earlier in the week. Van Tress held strong out there solo to ride into 6^th, with McCoy into the top 10 in their World Championship debuts. 

Wilcox was in the lead group after lap one in the MH1, but the heat got the best of him. He pulled out of the race early on.

MT1-2

Dennis Connors (Beaverton, Ore.) was the only American trike rider in the next wave of competition. He set out on three laps of the course covering 41.4 km. Connors was in the lead group established early with four other riders. By the last lap, they had a 3-minute lead. It came down to a sprint on the finish straight for the gold against Tim Celen (BEL). Connors came up just short at the line with Celen getting the advantage and claiming the rainbow jersey. Connors would wrap up the World Championships with two medals from two days of racing.

MH3

21 riders, including Ryan Pinney (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Owen Daniels (Fontana, Calif.) lined up in the MH3 to take on 69 km of racing. Pinney and Daniels were controlling the front as the group kept dwindling down for the first few laps. Unfortunately, Pinney crashed a few laps in but was able to recover and catch back onto the group and stay smooth. It came down to a battle between twelve riders at the line with Pinney riding to sixth and Daniels in twelfth.

MH4-5

To start off the afternoon session, the MH4 and MH5 categories took on the Huntsville heat at the hottest point of the day. 28 racers lined up to take on 5 laps of the course, totaling 69km 

Matt Tingley (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Tom Davis (Fremont, Ind.) took to the start in the H4 race. Tingley established himself in the lead group that broke away with five riders. Davis found himself in the next group back in a chase group of three. Midway through the race, the pace was picking up and the chase group closed 20s on the leaders but still needed another 40s. Meanwhile Tingley was looking composed in front group. On their last lap, the chasers caught the leaders and it was going to be all out for the finish. Once the group was on the finish straight, it was a sprint for the line. Tingley went sixth and Davis took ninth.

In the H5, Freddie De Los Santos (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Josue Barron (Los Angeles, Calif.) rode an incredibly aggressive race. They pushed the pace early on to breakaway with a group of seven. The chase group caught on midway through the race making it a group of nine heading into the last lap. With one to go, De Los Santos crashed abandoning the race. Then it was all Barron to fight to the line. He rode in for fifth, marking his best championship performance.
