On day 12 of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Team USA kicked off their first day of racing at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines National Velodrome. With all eyes on the Women’s Team Pursuit for the U.S. team, the top four riders were selected to compete in tonight’s event. Historically, USA Cycling has medaled in this event at the past three Olympic Games.
The team of Jennifer Valente (San Diego; Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY24), Chloé Dygert (Brownsburg, Ind.; CANYON//SRAM Racing), Lily Williams (Tallahassee, Fla.; Human Powered Health), and Kristen Faulkner (Homer, Alaska; EF Education-Cannondale) lined up for their four kilometer pursuit as the eighth team in the lineup to go. Ten different countries competed to qualify, but only eight made it through. The United States qualified second overall with a time of 4:05.238. New Zealand finished on top with a time of 4:04.679. Great Britain finished third with over a second off the U.S. Team USA will go up against Great Britain tomorrow evening in the First Rounds.

Racing continues tomorrow with the Women’s Team Pursuit First Round and Finals. The eight fastest teams will be matched in the First Round as follows: sixth fastest vs seventh fastest; fifth fastest vs eighth fastest; second fastest vs third fastest; the first fastest team vs the fourth fastest team. The top four teams will then move on to the bronze medal or gold medal final matchups.
