BMX RACING
UCI BMX Racing World Cup, Rounds 1 and 2: Sakarya, Turkey
(June 3-4) – Olympic medalist Alise Willoughby (Team Toyota/ Daylight Cycle Co.) podiumed both days on the opening weekend of the UCI BMX Racing World Cup, held in Sakarya, Turkey.
McKenzie Gayheart (Factory Full Tilt/Radio) also earned a spot on the podium, placing 3rd in the Women’s U23 race in Round 2.
The US women made a strong showing overall both days. In addition to Willoughby’s bronze in Round 1 and silver in Round 2, Lexis Colby, Felicia Stancil (Factory SSquared/Answer) and Daleny Vaughn (DK Bicycles) placed 8th, 9th and 10th on Saturday. On Sunday, Vaughn and Colby took 8th and 9th place.
In the Men’s U23 race, Spencer Cole (Supercross BMX) earned top-10 placings both days, taking 7th in Round 1 and 5th in Round 2.
The 10-round series counts toward qualifying points for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Next up is Papendal (Netherlands), on June 24 and 25.

ROAD
Giro d’Italia: Italy
(May 6-28) – Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) took 6th and Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) came in 2 seconds later for 7th at the Tour of Italy’s final time trial, a brutally tough climb the day before the last stage.
Kuss, who rode in support of winner Primoz Roglic, had two top-10 placings at the Giro and finished 14th overall on GC. McNulty was the sole American to win a stage, when he outsprinted a breakaway group of three on Stage 15. This was McNulty’s first grand tour stage win. He placed 29th overall.

Tour of Norway: Norway
(May 26-29) – Magnus Sheffield (INEOS Grenadiers) placed 2nd overall at the Tour of Norway, coming in just 5 seconds behind his British teammate Ben Tulett. Sheffieldplaced top-10 in two of three stages and missed a prologue time trial victory by a second. The 21-year-old also placed 2nd in the youth category.

Women’s World Tour, RideLondon Classique: England
(May 26-28) – Chloé Dygert (Canyon/SRAM Racing) placed 2nd overall at RideLondon Classique, her third stage race of the season. It was another strong showing for the former Time Trial World Champion, who’s missed much of the past two years due to illness and injuries.
At RideLondon Dygert won stage 2 and placed 2nd on stage 3. “I'm really happy with the team, we worked so well together and it was really exciting to pull something like that off," she said afterwards.

Tour of Japan: Sakai-Tokyo, Japan
(May 21-28) – Luke Lamperti (Trinity Racing) placed 1st in three stages at the Tour of Japan and top-5 in two other stages of the 8-stage race, which concluded with an eight-lap circuit race in Tokyo. Lamperti, 20, finished 1st in points, 5th in the young rider competition and 26th overall.

MOUNTAIN BIKE
Mountain Creek National Downhill Series: Vernon, New Jersey
(May 25-28) – Dakotah Norton (Intense Factory Racing) and Riley Miller (Commencal North America) took the elite wins in Round 2 of the National Downhill Series, held at Mountain Creek Bike Park. Norton, the reigning Downhill National Champion, also placed 1st in Round 1 at Tennessee National. Miller is the reigning women’s 17-18 National Champion.
The third and final round of the series is September 21st in Killington, Vermont.

GRAVEL
Unbound Gravel: Emporia, Kansas
(June 3) – After 200 miles and 10 hours of racing, Unbound Gravel’s elite men’s race came down to a sprint, with Keegan Swenson (Santa Cruz htSQD) taking first by one second over Petr Vakoc and three seconds over Lachlan Morton. It was sweet revenge for Swenson, who lost by one second last year when he was outsprinted for the win by Ivar Slik.
On the elite women’s side, last year’s winner Sofia Gómez Villafañe (Specialized) finished second behind German Carolin Schiff, while Sarah Sturm (Specialized/SRAM/Rapha) was third.
Unbound was race number two in the seven-race Life Time Grand Prix, which runs through late October. Swenson and Villafañe currently lead the men’s and women’s standings. Next up on July 8 is Crusher in the Tushar, in Beaver, Utah.
