COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Cycling announced on Monday the athletes who will represent the United States at the 2021 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships that will take place in Ostend, Belgium on January 30-31, 2021.
USA Cycling is fielding a strong, focused team of racers who are well-prepared heading into the World Championships. Despite the continued challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, the team who will represent the USA have proven to be very competitive on the world stage. The athletes taking the start at this year’s World Championships have been racing in Europe, with their focus on competing at the World Cups and World Championships in a truncated season.
Jesse Anthony, USA Cycling’s Cyclocross Manager, is excited to for the championship, “The six athletes who qualified for the World Championships this year are on track for very strong performances despite the significant challenges they faced to compete in Europe this year. It’s been truly inspiring to see the resilience and determination demonstrated by all six of these athletes, and the U.S. cyclocross community can be very proud of all of them. I am excited to see what they do in Ostend, and podium finishes are a realistic goal for this team.”
For the women, Madigan Munro (Boulder, Colo.; Trek Factory Racing) will be competing in the Under-23 event after placing third last year in the first-ever Junior Women’s Cyclocross World Championship race. In the elite women’s event, National Champion Clara Honsinger (Portland, Ore.; Cannondale Cyclocrossworld) will be entering as a rainbow jersey contender after her two silver medals in the World Cup series this year. Additionally, on the women’s side are 15-time National Champion Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo.; KFC Racing/Trek/Knight Composites) who finished fourth at last year’s event and Rebecca Fahringer (Concord, N.H.; Kona/Maxxis/Shimano) who finished in the top 15.
