USA Cycling is excited to welcome Jamie Bestwick as the new head coach of the BMX Freestyle National Team. Bestwick brings a wealth of experience to the role as one of the most decorated athletes in BMX history and as a coach who has guided athletes to three Olympic medals. Bestwick’s unparalleled expertise and passion for BMX will inspire the next generation of athletes as they compete on the world stage, including preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Bestwick worked with the BMX Freestyle program at the Great Britain Cycling Team for seven years, joining the program in 2017 when BMX Freestyle was confirmed as part of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
In Tokyo, he coached Charlotte Worthington to the sport’s first-ever Olympic gold medal, while Declan Brooks secured a bronze medal in the men’s competition for Great Britain. The success continued with Keiran Reilly, who won the World Championships in 2023 and later earned a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“Jamie has had a massive impact on BMX Freestyle during his time as an athlete and now as a coach,” said Jim Miller, USA Cycling’s Chief of Sports Performance. “As we continue to build on our success in BMX Freestyle, Jamie’s leadership and vision will be instrumental in fostering team culture and pushing the boundaries of BMX Freestyle on the global stage.”
Bestwick will now bring his expertise to USA Cycling to propel the sport to even greater heights. He will work closely with the BMX Freestyle National Team, focusing on the UCI World Cups, UCI World Championships, and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
“It’s an honor to join USA Cycling and contribute to the growth of BMX Freestyle in the U.S.,” said Bestwick. “This sport has given me so much, and I’m excited to share my experience and knowledge with this incredible group of athletes while building on what I’ve learned at British Cycling.”
