More than 2,000 of the world’s top amateur cyclists converged on Australia’s scenic Surf Coast and Geelong region for the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, held October 15–19. Representing the United States across multiple age categories, Team USA’s 53 age-group athletes demonstrated determination, endurance, and pride on one of the sport’s most challenging international stages.
Organized by AusCycling under sanction of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the Championships featured a 23 km individual time trial, a team relay, and the flagship 131 km Gran Fondo along the Great Ocean Road. The course’s sweeping coastal views, rolling terrain, and unpredictable winds tested every rider’s skill and resolve.
Team USA Momentum in Age-Group Racing
The 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships marked another step forward for U.S. participation at the international level. With 53 age-group athletes on the start line, Team USA continues to expand its footprint in endurance and gran fondo disciplines.
“Our athletes earned their place on this team through consistent results and dedication throughout the qualifying season,” said Eric Bennett, USA Cycling’s Director of Membership. “We’re seeing real growth in participation from riders who balance work, family, and training — and still compete at a world-class level. That’s the heart of this program.”
