UCI Cyclocross World Cup: Waterloo, Wisconsin
(October 9) – The UCI Cyclocross World Cup series kicked off with a weekend of racing in Waterloo, Wisconsin. Cyclists make one more stop in the US, in Fayetteville, Arkansas this weekend, before heading to Europe for a series of World Cup races that run through the end of January.
U.S. Cyclocross National Champion Clara Honsinger (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) placed 7th and 20-year-old Madigan Munro (Trek Factory Racing CX) placed 9th in Sunday’s UCI World Cup race.
On Friday’s opening day of racing, Honsinger took first in the Trek CX Cup C1 elite race. American women packed the top-10, with Munro placing 5th, Austin Killips 6th, Raylyn Nuss 7th, Caitlin Bernstein 9th and Lizzy Gunsalus 10th.
On the men’s side Friday, top U.S. racer Curtis White (Steve Tilford Foundation) placed 8th.

ROAD
Giro dell’Emilia Donne Elite: Italy
(October 1) – Veronica Ewers (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) placed 2nd in the one-day Giro dell’Emilia Donne Elite, missing out on the top spot by 3 seconds in a final sprint. The elite women’s one-day race is 90 kilometers and goes from Carpi to San Luca, Italy.
This has been a breakout year for the 28-year-old. Ewers took 9th overall at the Tour de France Femmes and was the top-placing woman on Team USA at this year’s road Road World Championships in Wollongong, Australia.
Women’s WorldTour, Tour de Romandie Féminin: Switzerland
(October 7-9) – The Women’s WorldTour season wrapped up with the inaugural Tour de Romandie Féminin, a grueling, 3-day stage race that began in Lausanne and ended in Geneva.
Veronica Ewers (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) took 14th on Stage 1 and 6th on Stage 2, which finished with a long, Category 1 climb. She placed 5th overall on GC, her second weekend in a row placing top 5 in elite women’s racing.
Tour de Taiwan
(October 2-6) – Nineteen-year-old Luke Lamperti (Trinity Racing) sprinted to his first UCI professional road victory on Stage 3 at this year’s Tour de Taiwan, a five-stage, 670-kilometer race. Lamperti is the two-time (and current) U.S. National Criterium Champion. He also placed 5th at this year’s U.S. National Road Championships.
Lamperti kept it consistent, taking 3rd on Stages 4 and 5 in Taiwan, to place 4th overall on GC. He was also 3rd in King of the Mountains and 1st in the Points category. Lamperti plans on racing one more year in the U23 ranks before moving up to a full WorldTour calendar.
BMX RACING
UCI BMX World Cup Rounds 7 & 8: Bogotá, Colombia
(October 1-2) – Cameron Wood (Mongoose) followed up his 1st and 2nd place finishes the previous weekend in Bogotá with a 3rd place spot in Round 8, on the final weekend of this season’s UCI BMX World Cup racing. He held on to second in the Elite Men's World Cup overall.
Two-time World Champion Alise Willoughby (Team Toyota/GW Bicycling) also scored a podium spot for the second weekend in a row, riding to second place in Round 7, but crashing out the following day leaving her unable to start the race. Felicia Stancil (Factory SSquared/Answer) took 5th in Round 8 and placed 9th in the Elite Women’s World Cup overall.
Mckenzie Gayheart (Factory Full Tilt) also came back to land on two more World Cup podiums in BMX's first season of the U23 class. She finished third in Rounds 7 and 8, following up her two, second-place finishes the previous weekend. She placed 6th overall in World Cup U23 standings.
GRAVEL
2022 UCI Gravel World Championships: Veneto, Italy
(October 8-9) – Lauren Stephens (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) was the top-placing American in the elite category at the inaugural UCI Gravel World Championships in Veneto, placing 15th in the Elite Women’s 140k race. Stephens, who was racing in her third World Championships in 3 weeks, was in the breakaway group of 6 for much of the race, which saw specialists in road, mountain bike, gravel and cross country compete.
Hundreds of age-group cyclists from around the globe also vied for championship titles over two days of racing. Complete results here.
TRACK
UCI Masters Cycling Track World Championships: Los Angeles
(September 24-29) – Men and women ages 35 through 80+ vied for World Champion titles in three sprint events (match sprints, 500-750-1000m time trial, team sprint) and four endurance events (pursuit, scratch race, points race, and team pursuit) at the VELO Sports Center in Los Angeles.
