The historic 2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships will take on Valais, Switzerland, from August 30 to September 14. For the first time ever, eight mountain bike disciplines will come together at a single World Championship venue.
Earlier this week, USA Cycling unveiled its Cross-Country Mountain Bike Team. Today, another 61 riders join the roster, representing the U.S. in Cross-Country Marathon, Downhill, Enduro, E-Enduro, and E-MTB.
The action kicks off with the opening ceremonies on Saturday, August 30, followed by the Enduro as the first championship event. E-MTB takes the spotlight next, with Cross-Country Marathon and Downhill closing out the first week of racing.
With so many disciplines on display, there’s no shortage of American talent to cheer for. In Marathon, recent Leadville Trail 100 champions and course record holders Keegan Swenson (Midway, Utah) and Kate Courtney (Kentfield, Calif.; She Sends Racing) will tackle the grueling 78-mile route from Verbier to Val D’Anniviers. They’ll be joined by Marathon National Champions Cole Paton (Cashmere, Wash.; Giant Bicycles) and Hannah Otto (Salt Lake City, Utah; Scott Bicycles), both eager to make their mark on the world stage.
American downhillers have been in top form throughout the UCI World Cup season. Anna Newkirk (Riehen, Switzerland; Frameworks Racing 5DEV) has claimed two elite podiums, while National Champion Ryan Pinkerton (Alisa Viejo, Calif.; Mondraker Factory Racing), Luca Shaw (Pisgah Forest, N.C.; Canyon CLLCTV Factory Team), Dylan Maples (Orangevale, Calif.; Commencal Muc-Off), Dakotah Norton (Clinton, Tenn.; Mondraker Factory Racing), and Richie Rude (Redding, Conn.; Yeti/ FOX Factory Team) have all landed in the top 10 for the Elite Men. Not only will Rude compete in Downhill, but also the Enduro earlier in the week. Last year, he scored a bronze medal in the Enduro World Championship event, and won his second straight World Cup Overall title.
The future of U.S. downhill looks just as promising. Reigning Junior World Champion Asa Vermette (Durango, Colo.; Frameworks Racing 5DEV) will aim to defend his rainbow jersey, while first-year junior Aletha Ostgaard (Selah, Wash.; Canyon CLLCTV Factory Team), currently sitting second in the World Cup overall, will be one to watch after multiple podium finishes this season.
