Originally from Michigan, Matt’s life changed in an instant after a crash on a friend’s dirt bike track left him with a severe spinal cord injury. Following surgery to stabilize his spine, doctors told him he was unlikely to walk again, with limited sensation or movement below the injury.
Despite the devastating diagnosis, Matt faced his recovery with strength and determination. He turned to adaptive sports during rehabilitation and discovered hand cycling – a sport that reignited his competitive drive.
In just a few years, Matt rose through the ranks to earn a spot on Team USA and compete at the highest level – the Paralympic Games. He made his Games debut at Paris 2024 where he earned bronze in the Team Relay – Mixed and competed in the H4 Time Trial and Road Race events.
