Emily Gilbert, Andrew Carr, Ella Sabo, and Preston Eye earn Individual Omnium Titles.

For a second year, Trek Bicycles welcomed student-athletes from across the country to their headquarters in Waterloo, Wisconsin, for the 2026 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships p/b Trek. Riders competed across the Team Time Trial, Road Race, and Criterium to determine the top Varsity and Club schools.

Team Time Trial

Riders raced into the weekend with a rolling 36.8-kilometer Team Time Trial on Friday. The Club Women were first to roll out, with the reigning champions, University of Colorado Boulder, once again posting the fastest time at 57:18.31 to earn gold. Colorado State University and the University of Arizona rounded out the podium with times of 57:45.15 and 59:02.78, respectively. In the Varsity Women’s race, Marian University clocked a 52:49.58 to win the Stars and Stripes, with Colorado Mesa University stopping the clock at 53:37.76 to earn silver. Savannah College of Art and Design secured bronze with a strong time of 54:02.24.

In the Club Men’s event, University of Carolina at Chapel Hill blitzed the course by clocking the fastest time of the day with a 46:43.55 to take home the National Title. California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo earned silver with a 47:48.27, and Dartmouth College rode in 13 seconds back to take bronze. In the Varsity Men’s race, the top five teams were all within a minute of each other. Reigning champions, Milligan University dominated the course, stopping the clock at 46:59.90 to take the National Championship title. Colorado Mesa University was close behind with a 47:10.33 to claim second. Marian University put in a strong ride to secure third.

Road Race

On Saturday, riders met at Trek’s headquarters in Waterloo for the road race. The first race of the day was the Varsity Women, who completed four laps of the 14.5-mile rolling course. A five-person breakaway formed and stayed together for most of the race. On lap four, reigning champion Jette Aelken (Savannah, Ga.; SCAD Savannah), Stephanie Lawrence (Redlands, Calif.; Marian University), and Ella Sabo (Colorado Springs, Colo.; Colorado Mesa University) went clear and arrived at the finish together for a three-person sprint with Sabo grabbing the win. Lawrence secured silver, and Aelken rode in for bronze.

Next up were the Club Women. On the second lap, Emily Gilbert (Tucson, Ariz.; University of Arizona) launched an attack and only Molly Roberts (Eagle, Colo.; University of Michigan-Ann Arbor) was able to follow. Gilbert proved too strong and rode away from Roberts later in the race and gained over five minutes to win the Stars and Stripes. Roberts was absorbed by a chasing group where she ultimately finished in third. Hannah Stackpole (Monterey, Calif.; California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo) won the sprint for second.

After a short break, the Varsity Men rolled out for six laps. The race started fast, with multiple teams trying to establish a break in the opening laps. Strong afternoon winds made it difficult for any group to get away, turning the race into one of attrition. Benjamin Boroff (Boise, Idaho; Marian University) delivered a perfect lead-out for teammate Tom Scott (Indianapolis, Ind.; Marian University), who sprinted to the win. Boroff held on for second, making it a Marian 1-2. Nathan Suroweic (Forest Hill, Md.; Lees-McRae College) finished third.

The final race of the day was the Club Men, which had the largest field with 94 starters. Wind once again played a major role. A group of five broke away early, then grew to more than a dozen riders as the race went on. On the final lap, the group split apart, and Ben Hinchliffe (Hanover, N.H.; Dartmouth College) went solo to win the Stars and Stripes jersey. Adrian Gorman (Chapel Hill, N.C.; University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) and Boden Gentile (Great Falls, Va.; University of Virginia) finished more than two minutes down to secure silver and bronze.

Criterium

The final day of competition took riders to downtown Madison for the criterium events. Riders navigated the four-corner course with long headwind and tailwind straights, as the wind picked up throughout the day. The Club Women opened the day, with Gilbert and Roberts repeating their move from the previous day and breaking away from the field. This time, the win came down to a sprint, with Gilbert taking the victory over Roberts to double up on the weekend. Sylvia Espinoza (University of Colorado Boulder) won the field sprint for third.

Next up were the Varsity Women. Colorado Mesa University, Marian University, and Savannah College of Art and Design controlled most of the race, keeping things together and setting up their sprinters for the finish. In a drag race down the final straight, Lawrence came out on top to win the National Title. Colorado Mesa University teammates Sabo and last year’s winner, Cassie Hickey (Parker, Colo.), sprinted to second and third.

The Club Men were up next, with 96 starters on the line. The pace stayed high for most of the race, averaging 29 mph, while multiple attacks were brought back. In the second half of the race, Gentile made a move out of a breakaway group and opened a significant gap. The peloton responded, bringing him back with only a few laps to go and setting up a group finish. Andrew Carr (Salinas, Calif.; California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo) won the final sprint, with teammate Mattheus Johnson (Redwood City, Calif.; California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo) taking second. William Myers (Chapel Hill, N.C.; Colorado College) held on for third.

The final race of the day was the Varsity Men. Attacks came quickly and often, but none were able to stick as the field stayed aggressive throughout the race. After 80 minutes of racing, it came down to a group sprint, where Preston Eye (Flowery Branch, Ga.; Piedmont University) surged to the win and the National Title. Caden Budd (Wrightstown, Wis.; Belmont Abbey College) finished second, while last year’s winner, Luke Elphingstone (Grand Junction, Colo.; Colorado Mesa University), rounded out the podium in third.
