Lake Superior College Joins Varsity Program

USA Cycling has added Lake Superior College to the list of varsity cycling programs. LSC is the first program to join the list from the North Central Conference.

Cycling at Lake Superior College takes advantage of IMBA certified Gold Level trails in and around Duluth, MN.

Lake Superior College, located in Duluth, MN, is adding collegiate cycling to their athletics program. Duluth is recognized by the International Mountain Bicycling Association with a Gold-Level Ride Center designation.

Greg Daw has been named the inaugural coach of the co-ed cycling team.

Daw comes to LSC with several years of successful coaching experience. Most recently, he served as assistant coach of Track & Field and Cross Country at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan from August 2013 until July 2017. Daw has 10 years of racing experience in mountain biking, road, and triathlon.

Daw returns to Duluth, and Lake Superior College, having served as an instructor at LSC in Spring Semester 2013 while completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Minnesota Duluth in May 2013 and a Master of Science in Exercise Science at Northern Michigan University in 2015. He is a certified U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association strength and conditioning coach.

Daw states. “I'm really excited to have an assistant coach, Joshua Tesch M.S. Exercise Science, to help build the LSC Cycling program from the ground up. Not only is Tesch a veteran in the sport, he also brings 12 years of collegiate coaching experience. Tesch has more than 25 years of racing experience in mountain biking, cyclocross, road, and BMX cycling. He was also a four-time NCAA National qualifier in cross-country skiing.”

“Our vision is to develop and grow LSC Cycling and be successful at the national level. I am confident that Lake Superior College has the resources to provide student-cyclists with a quality training and educational environment.”
