USA Cycling has announced the launch of the Youth Track Cycling Development Grant, a new membership supported initiative designed to help velodromes, clubs, and coaches introduce junior athletes to track cycling through structured development programming.
Inspired by the success of USA Cycling’s Search for Speed talent transfer program, the Youth Track Cycling Development Grant focuses on creating opportunities for athletes ages 14-18 to introduce athletes competing in other cycling disciplines or athletic backgrounds into competitive track cycling. The program aims to strengthen local velodrome participation while building long-term athlete pathways to Junior Track National Championships, High School Track National Championships, and future national team development opportunities.
Through financial support for introduction to track initiatives, the grant will help local programs reduce barriers to entry and expand access to track cycling experiences for junior athletes.
“Track cycling has a long history of developing some of the country’s top athletes,” said Eric Bennett, USA Cycling Director of Membership. “The Youth Track Cycling Development Grant is designed to help local programs create welcoming entry points for young athletes while strengthening connections between velodromes, coaches, and the next generation of riders.”
Eligible applicants include velodromes that sanction events with USA Cycling, registered USA Cycling clubs, and USA Cycling certified coaches who are interested in partnering with local velodromes. Funding is intended to support local track programs that serve junior athletes. Programs must focus on athletes ages 14-18 and provide a structured curriculum designed to transition athletes into track racing and training.
Two grant awards of $2,500 per program will be available based on demonstrated need and program scope. Funding may be used for track bike rentals, velodrome access, coaching fees, and educational materials related to track cycling safety and athlete development.
Applications for the Youth Track Cycling Development Grant open May 27 and close June 10. Award notifications will be distributed June 17, with funds expected to be dispersed by July 1.
Applications will be reviewed by a three-person USA Cycling panel based on program impact, recruitment strategy, curriculum, budget, and alignment with the goals of the grant initiative.
