Barry Wilcox was a standout junior cyclist from Port Angeles, Washington. He won national time trial titles and raced for the Junior National Team at 16. However, a devastating car accident that same year caused a spinal cord injury and shifted his path.
Now competing as a handcyclist in the MH1 class, Wilcox made his long-awaited world championship debut in 2023 at age 45. There, he won a bronze medal in the road race and finished fifth in the time trial. His breakout year also included a world cup bronze in Belgium, and two more podium finishes at the world cup final in Alabama.
A clinical exercise physiologist and instructor at Park University in Arizona, Wilcox brings the same passion he has for sport to the classroom – encouraging students to live well, stay active, and pursue their goals.
