UCI BMX Racing World Championships: Rock Hill, South Carolina
(May 12-18) – Team USA came away with a gold, silver and two bronze medals at this year’s BMX Racing World Championships, held at Rock Hill BMX Supercross Track in South Carolina.
The Americans packed the elite women’s final, with Alise Willoughby (Team Toyota/Daylight Cycle Co.) taking gold and Daleny Vaughn (DK Cycles) earning bronze, along with nominations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It was Willoughby’s third World Championship and fourth Olympic nomination. Felicia Stancil (Factory SSquared/Answer) was 4th and Carly Kane (Huffy Bicycles) placed 6th.
Patrick (PJ) O’Brien (Davis Racewear) took silver in the Men’s U23, with Ethan Popovich (Haro Bikes) placing 7th. McKenzie Gayheart (Factory Full Tilt/ Radio) placed 8th in the Women’s U23.
Ava Corley (Tangent/ Rift/ Rockstar Racing Team) earned the bronze world championship medal in the junior women’s final for the second year in a row, while Alexis Alden (Albe’s Bike Shop) placed 7th.

MOUNTAIN BIKE
UCI MTB World Cup: Nové Mesto, Czech Republic
(May 24-26) – It was another successful weekend of MTB World Cup races for the Americans, who came away with three victories and 9 other podium placings at Nové Mesto.
Riley Amos (Trek Factory Racing-Pirelli) continued his winning streak, taking 1st in both the U23 men’s XCC and XCO races. It was his third double-victory this season. Bjorn Riley (Trek Future Racing) placed 3rd in the U23 men’s XCO final and 6th in XCC.
Haley Batten (Specialized Factory Racing) captured two podiums, placing 3rd in elite women’s XCC and 2nd in the elite women’s XCO final.
Christopher Blevins (Specialized Factory Racing) placed 2nd in elite men’s XCC.
Madigan Munro (Trek Factory Racing-Pirelli) also podiumed twice, placing 3rd in U23 women’s XCC and 2nd in XCO. She ranks 3rd overall in the standings.
Vida Lopez de San Roman (Bear National Team) placed 4th in junior women’s XCO and Alice Hoskins (Gravity Collective) placed 8th.

UCI Downhill MTB World Cup: Bielsko-Biala, Poland
(May 18-19) – Round two of UCI Downhill World Cup racing saw another win for Asa Vermette(Frameworks Racing) in the junior men’s final. Lucas Dedora (The Gravity Collective) was 9th. Vermette took first in round one two weeks earlier at Fort William, Scotland.
Luca Shaw (Canyon CLLCTV Factory Team) placed 6th in the elite men’s final, while Kale Cushman(The Gravity Collective) and Matilda Melton (Transition Factory Racing) placed 5th and 6th in the junior women’s final.
After two rounds of racing, Shaw and Dakotah Norton (Mondraker Factory Racing) stand 4th and 7thoverall in the standings for elite men; Anna Newkirk (Beyond Racing) is 7th for elite women; Vermetteis 1st for junior men, while Melton and Kushman stand 5th and 6th.
Round 3 takes place June 7-9 in Leogang, Austria.

National Downhill Series: Vernon, NJ
(May 24-26) – Stop number two of the USA Cycling National Downhill Series brought top pros and amateurs to Mountain Creek Bike Park, in Vernon, New Jersey for a weekend of racing. Many of the pros flew back to the U.S. after racing the World Cup in Poland.
Asa Vermette (Frameworks Racing) was one of them, and backed up his Junior World Cup win with an Elite win in Mountain Creek! Dante Silva (Canyon Collective/Pirelli Team/Monster Army) placed 2ndand Cole Suetos (Defiant Racing) was 3rd.
Aletha Ostgaard (SRAM, Fastrack Racing) was 2nd in the pro women’s race and McKenna Merten(KHS Pro MTB) was 4th.
There are two more events in the National Downhill Series, with pros vying for overall titles. The nex race on the calendar takes place in Southern California, August 16-18.

UCI Masters Mountain Bike World Championships: Cairns, Australia
(May 16-19) – Masters cross-country and downhill riders converged on Cairns, Australia to vie for world champion rainbow jerseys, competing on a rainforest trail network overlooking the Great Barrier Reef.
Three USA cyclists took gold. In downhill, American winners were Lauren Moser (Women 35-39) and Petr Hanak (Men 45-49). Two-time Olympian David “Tinker” Juarez took the win in the Men’s 60-64 cross-country race.

U.S. Pro Road National Championships: Charleston, West Virginia
(May 14-19) – Sean Quinn (EF Education-Easypost) won the elite men’s road race and Kristen Faulkner (EF Education-Cannondale) took the women’s title at the Pro Road National Championships, held in Charleston, West Virginia.
Coryn Labecki (EF Education-Cannondale) earned her 74th national title, winning the Elite Women’s Criterium. Stephen Bassett (Project Echelon Racing) won the elite men’s title. Brandon McNulty(UAE Team Emirates) defended his individual time trial title, winning the elite men’s race, while Taylor Knibb earned the elite women’s title.
Hundreds of elite cyclists, including U23 and Juniors, competed for national titles in road racing, criterium, and individual time trial.
Gavin Hlady (Aevolo Cycling) won two titles, winning the U23 Men’s criterium and road race. Nicole Steinmetz (Cynisca Cycling) took the U23 Women’s road race crown and Chloe Patrick (Cynisca Cycling) took the U23 Women’s criterium title.
Betty Hasse (CCB p/b Levine Law Group) won her second U23 women’s time trial title, while Artem Shmidt (Hagens Berman Axeon) won the U23 men’s title.
Alyssa Sarkisov (dcdevo Racing Academy) won the junior women's road race in a final sprint, while Ashlin Barry (EF-Education ONTO) won both the junior men’s road race and the junior men’s time trial.
Lidia Cusack (dcdevo Racing Academy) won the junior women’s time trial on day one of racing.

Pan-American Road Continental Championships: São José dos Campos, Brazil
(May 21-25) – For the second year in a row, Amber Neben won the women’s Pan-American individual time trial title, covering the 23.3 km course in 31:40. Lauren Stephens (Cynisca Cycling), placed 2nd. The previous week, Stephens placed 5th and Neben was 3rd at the US Pro Time Trial national championships.
Lauren Stephens (Cynisca Cycling) defended her Pan-Am Road Race title, taking first for the second year in a row in Brazil. Stephens completed the 120 km course in 2:45:11. Shayna Powless (DNA Pro Cycling Team) placed 12th.

Giro d’Italia: Italy
(May 4-26) – Of the 176 racers who started the 21-stage, 3,400 kilometer Giro d’Italia, just 142 finished, including the five Americans who began the race on May 4. Top results included time trial specialist Magnus Sheffield (INEOS Grenadiers) who placed 3rd place on the Stage 7 time trial. He came in behind Filippo Ganna and Giro winner Tadej Pogacar.
Kevin Vermaerke (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) placed 9th overall in the Youth category, and 21-year-old Luke Lamperti (Soudal Quick-Step) had two, top-20 stage finishes. Lawrence Warbasse(Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) and Will Barta (Movistar) also competed at this year’s race, placing 37th and 50th respectively.

BMX FREESTYLE
BMX Freestyle Olympic Qualifier Series: Shanghai, China
(May 16-19) – In the women’s elite event at round one of the BMX Freestyle Olympic Qualifier Series in Shanghai, World Champion Hannah Roberts took 4th and Perris Benegas was 5th. In men’s elite, Justin Dowell placed 6th and Nick Bruce was 7th. Team USA finishes the Olympic Qualifier Series in Budapest June 20-22.
Twenty-four men and 24 women from around the globe are competing for 12 spots via the Olympic Qualifier Series.
